Huge Eno fan here, so I can relate. Which is your favourite piece of work by Eno? Have to admit I have never tried freelensing. I think I was always too worried about particles getting onto my sensor!

My favourite is actually a song he did with John Cale ‘The River’, the harmonies are gorgeous and I love the rhythm! Lovely lyrics too. Of his ambient-style work, ‘Deep Blue Day’ on his Apollo album is up there, just stunning! I can’t handle listening to ‘An Ending (Ascent)’ it gets me too emotional..! The power of music eh.

How about you, do you have a few favourites?

I know what you mean about freelensing & particles, although I’ve never had any issues in the five years I’ve been doing it, well…no obvious issues I’ve noticed anyway! 😄

I will give The River another listen, it's been a long time since I heard it. My favorites ebb and flow, but I love On Land (Ambient 4). I was on a family holiday as a teenager and was reading Interview with a Vampire (as you do) and listening to On Land and the two together were incredible. So that stuck with me and I still love On Land and the sense of nature and landscape. It doesn't get the attention some of his other ambient albums get. Beyond that, Neroli and Thursday Afternoon are also great for working and writing. I recently discovered that Neroli was reissued with another track in 2018 called New Space Music, which is also very good and up there with Neroli I think. Thus far I have only found it on YouTube. I guess I just need to buy it. Oh, and The Pearl, with Harold Budd. Sorry, I have a lot of faves!

Thanks for sharing, Tom! I'll give them a listen, he's got so much work there's plenty I've not heard. Also, I love the association of one of his albums and the book you were reading, you got me thinking of a post I've had drafted in my brain for a while about the fact a piece of art is never just experienced in isolation - that was a perfect example 😌

It was a happy accident really, as the sort of 'ambient nature' and atmospheres in On Land was the perfect compliment to the Interview with a Vampire book and how it describes what it's like when one of the characters becomes a vampire – the heightened senses, being able to hear the smallest creatures. I was probably 15 or so, so it's a while ago now, but I often wonder whether I would enjoy the pairing the same way today. Or maybe just leave that experience alone...

Lovely photographs by the way!

Great post dear Katy! Thank you for reminding me the freelensing method!❤️ I also listen to the nonlyric music while writing, and I have found out lately, that I need it also when I am editing photos. I need to “think” visualy and lyrics disturb me.😁 Thank you also for Eno, I will try it. I usually listen to piano or to Emancipator…and various ambient sounds I can find on Calm app. Enjoy your days!😘
